ring.jpg
The rings represents Ferdinand and Miranda getting married.

1. In the 1600s the next in line to King is always to eldest son which is what Ferdinand is.
2. I find it weird that Miranda and Ferdinand wanted to get married after two hours of knowing eachother but it was very common around this time period. Marrying so soon and at such a young age is very odd because the couple would not know much about eachother. It was legal for a girl 14 to be married but most of the people were around the age of 21. Shakesphere commonly uses young teen to marry eachother which was a very interesting fact that I found.
3. For two different royalties to marry was a common way to join alliances. The marriages were already arranged to marry other royalties. One of the reasons Prospero wanted them to get married was because it created them to alliance between someone that wronged them.
4. In the 1600s, tights and linen collars were very common as worn as a Prince. They also wore very tall hats as well as slash sleeves to signify there Royality.
5. Prospero gives Ferdinand and Miranda an awesome wedding gift when he calls the goddesses to bless them. He calls Iris who is the goddess of rainbow, Ceres who is the goddess of agriculture, and Juno who is the Jupiter's wife to bring Miranda and Ferdinand special blessings. The King and Queens were the ones who relied on the goddesses.
6. In the 1600s, it was not difficult at all to become a teacher. Any single person that could read in write was qualified to become a teacher as long as they believed in the church. They believed that the crown and going to church kept them out of trouble.
7. The classrooms were very plain during this time period. The rooms had no chalkboards which today would be very hard for the teachers because they are very useful. The rooms had very little to no pencils or pens. In order to write, the teachers would have to use burnt charcoal on a piece of bark that they pulled off the tree. The pens were made from goose quills and the ink was provided by the teacher. The desks were made of hard wooden benches.
8. When the prince marries someone they will automatically become king and queen. This is the case for Ferdinand and Miranda.
9. The Prince of Naples Ferdinand had a pretty layed back life. He had many slaves who brought him anything and everything he needed which made his job a lot easier. Ferdinand is not used to helping or doing anything. So when Prospero asked him to fetch him some wood he simply answer no. Prospero was very upset with Ferdinand's answer. Ferdinand finally gives in and ends up carrying the wood for Prospero.
10. In the Tempest Ferdinand acts like a baby. He acts this way because he has always been protected as a child since he is the King's son. Ferdinand is a very young and innocent person. It was believed that you should stay on the ship with the King so you die with him but instead Ferdinand jumped off.
11. In The Tempest Ferdinand and Miranda play chess. While Ferdinand was playing chess, he looked up and saw his father. There was a couple other common games that adults as well as children played such as solitare and backgannon.
